Error sending to Garmin

Alex_P
Hi!

I'm new to MapRun and very excited to have found an orienteering app that actually seems to work and is fairly intuitive and easy to use! But I'm having trouble using the Garmin watch feature.

I've set up a course (local storage on my phone) but I'm having problems sending it to my Garmin device. When I use the "Send event to my Garmin watch" feature, I get the "Success" screen, but on my watch when I open MapRunG I get the "Problem No events for this device" screen. When I open the App Event Log in MapRun, the status for the Send to device entry is "ERROR" and the status message is blank.

I've checked that the Garmin Watch ID is entered in MapRun correctly. I've checked that the User ID in the MapRunG settings matches what is displayed on the watch when I try to start an activity and the watch tries to retrieve an event. I've logged onto my Garmin account in MapRun and given it permission to access activities.

Am I doing something wrong??

Here are the details:
Watch: Forerunner 935
Phone app: MapRun 7.0.28
Watch app: MapRunG 1.4.4

Alex,

Sorry about the delay in responding.

It could be an issue with using a course that is local to your phone...

Have you been able to send published events (ie events from the MapRun server) to your Garmin?

Please let us know (as this will confirm your setup is working). Also please email more details to support@maprun.net:
- what is the watchId (as set in MapRun6 on your phone).
- what is the Event name you are sending?

Regards
Peter

Hi Peter

Thanks for the reply.

I've tried to select an event from the app and send to my Garmin, but no luck.  I get the same behavior ("Success" in the app, but "Problem No events..." on the Garmin.

I'll send an email with more info.

Thanks!

Re: Error sending to Garmin

Solved!

When logging into Garmin from within the MapRun app on my Android device, the WatchID would automatically get updated to a 10-digit number which turned out to be my Garmin watch's Unit ID.  That is NOT the right number.  I had to manually remove this number and replace it with the 9-digit User ID found in the MapRunG setting in Connect IQ.

It is a little confusing, as Watch ID is more similar to Unit ID than to User ID.  But I'm sure there are different terms for these things across the various Garmin devices.

So the steps were:
1. Install MapRun on phone and MapRunG on Garmin device
2. Log into Garmin from within the MapRun app on my phone
3. Get the User ID from the MapRunG settings in Connect IQ
4. Remove the 10 digit number that Garmin / MapRun automatically populated in the MapRun app
5. Replace it with the 9-digit User ID from MapRunG
6. In MapRun, send an Event to my Garmin
7. Sync the Garmin watch to the Garmin Connect phone app
8. Start a new MapRunG activity on my watch, and the event was there waiting for me.

Thanks so much to Peter for the help!
