Event auto punches the start

I found the following option in Event section of Settings - The Event auto punches the start at a set time. I cannot find info about this.
Can anyone explain?

This setting relates to "Mass Start" events, as described here: http://maprunners.weebly.com/event-types.html

The setting is normally set by including an MX code in the event name.
