'(Extra)' in results

Pyrosyard
Hoping someone can provide some info on this. I'm not sure whether it's a glitch, a fix request, the way an organiser has set something up or something completely different. Looking at this as a runner rather than an organiser.

I've seen a few events where people seem to be credited multiple times for a control, and you see (Extra) in the results next to the control number.  I'm not sure whether these are HITMO edited, but here's a recent case in point:

I don't know whether this is exclusive to Score-format events, but that's where I've seen it predominantly.

Hopefully this doesn't come across as sour grapes - I'm not trying to get anyone penalised but trying to understand how and why it happens!

Cheers

This looks like a result generated by processing a GPS track (eg from a watch), using the GPS Track upload function.

As a general rule, (Extra) is added to duplicate controls in scatter/score events or extra punches on a line course. Controls with (Extra) shouldn't result in a higher score... although currently the score is manually calculated by the person doing the upload.

The GPS track upload function currently relies upon the person uploading the track, de-selecting superfluous  "punches" and if that is not done, you can end up with a result like you one you highlighted.

So it then relies upon the event organiser to review results created in this way, and validating/editing them. Improved functionality is planned (but is not there yet).

If you'd like to have us check out this specific case, please send details to the support email address given on the website (maprunners.com.au).
