GPS issues with AppleWatch and IPhone combination

Caroline Mackenzie
This post was updated on .
Just started doing MapRunF in urban areas.   I seem to have got some of the GPS track issues, described here. Though I have my iPhone 8 with both data and WiFi turned off. Also screen lock turned to never.
I have been running Strava on my AW3 (with sim) to have a back up track.

Issues especially bad next to a high (~10’) metal primary school fence. Also various walls.
The issues are worse from the phone track, but sometimes both GPS sources go astray off from both tracks.
Other times both set of tracks are OK, and dead on route.

How do I set up my AW3 , so that I don’t get these issues please? I guess there is some interference happening here?  I have been putting my IPhone in a bum bah at times, though pull it out when I’m at a control site but not getting a ping!

I’ll try a MRF in the open wooded area  tomorrow. Hopefully all issues go away? Though there a couple of electricity supplies running through it!

Or I could just turn Bluetooth on the phone off as well!
Or leave the AW3 at home.

I’m afraid I haven’t the legs to test out every combination I can think of to experiment on.
So I’m really hoping that someone else has already sussed out the answer!

The simple solution that I have found was to put my iPhone8 into Airplane mode. Just one simple switch 😊👍
This turns off all-:
WiFi, data and Bluetooth on both on my phone and my Apple watch.
Therefore means each device is on its own GPS and can’t grab data off the other device.
