Start Anywhere Score-O Advice Needed

MichaelRaz
I have put up one point to point start anywhere but not a Score-O so am hoping someone who has done this can confirm it works as I think it would.
I'm assuming I have all the controls  in the KML (and on the map) with a co-located Start and Finish control (just near a parking lot for the sake of this check).  If someone starts at a different control (such as 47 near a different parking lot) - this one becomes the Start and Finish on the course and the original Start Control is assigned a code one higher than the others and just becomes a regular control on the Score-O course.  The original Finish is ignored.  I just leave the course name basically the same but useful to note in the name it is a start anywhere - such as "StonySwamp ScoreO Start Anywhere PXAS ScoreV60"

Sound right?

I was also thinking through what would happen if, on the paper map, the Start/Finish was just shown as a control numbered one higher than the highest in the KML.  Thus, from the perspective of the map there is no Start/Finish.  Walking this through it would seem to work as the SF in the KML either is used as such (no score) or, if a different control is used to start, it becomes the Start, thus no scoring tied to it.  Make Sense?

Thanks

Michael

Re: Start Anywhere Score-O Advice Needed

Answering my own question.  I set up a small score-O Check Site around my house with Start Anywhere set in the options.  Although not needed, I modified my paper course map (from Purple Pen) to replace the Start/Finish (co-located) with a plain control numbered one more than the highest in the course.  Ran this multiple times with different combinations and it all worked perfectly.  As designed, the app would modify the default Start/Finish to become a standard control (numbered the same as the one I modified) and move the start/finish to the control started on.  Scoring worked great.

Non of this is unexpected but wanted to validate before I post a regular Score-O this way.  I like the fact that the paper map will not even have a Start/Finish on it.  The course has 4 or 5 good starting points at trail head parking lots so this should result in a wide variety of route choices through the trails.
One small note - changing the Start/Finish in the PDF map after it is exported is fairly simple with full Adobe, otherwise it would need some manipulation in whatever course setting tool is being used - or don't bother - I consider it a "nice to have".
