Re: Suggested Enhancements- Runners vs riders having same event -Tibor Molnar

GFazekas
Would it be a good idea to save with the results if the course was performed by riding or running.
Usually we try to put MTBO code into the kml name for events shared for riders, however, some courses could be used by runners and riders, too.
The total time may help to separate the results, however, we cannot see slow riders...
Could it be asked before the start -- if the admin set it to be asked.

Very basic, low priority request:
When a new event is uploaded, there is a summary provided of things like the controls, name etc.  Can the event ID be added to this?  Currently I get this by just downloading the provided PPEN zip file which, although I don't actually need it, contains the Event ID in the name (this work around is why this is low priority).  The Event ID is useful as it provides a much easier way to scroll to events through the old admin forms when needed but mostly because it allows an easy way to provide a direct url link to the RG page for the course.

Thanks

Re: Suggested Enhancements- Age/ Category for line course events Gabor Vincze

Gabor organized long series built on line courses having same running circles. (AURIGA series)
Participants came from different categories, children, adults.
The result list currently has no information about the age/category, it would help a lot him when he announces the final results, who was the best among the children having same age, among the adults, etc
Would that be a huge change, to add a new column to html result list?

Thank you!

When looking for results in the Leader Board it would be useful to be able to sort or select by Country or Club or some other means to make it easier to find results for our events. Having said that if I put Club in the name of the event that would also provide a way of picking them out. Or is there some other trick for getting to the results for an event more easily.

I want to look through our more recent events and check if anyone new has run them, because they are open and available over a long period of time. Currently I have to search for the event, check the results and then search for the next event because my search criteria is not maintained.

Re: Suggested Enhancements

Robyn,

we had same question when we started to use the system. Then we agreed in Hungary to put a code into the event (kml) name, we start it always with HUN then county or city name is appended, it helps to filter them later, and we suggested same file names for clubs in Austria, Germany etc

The layout update for filtering would help a lot , but this workaround solution would be a great help till it is done.

A filter by the parent folder the course is in would be a nice feature.

Would it be possible to be able to decide where the number goes on the phone map?  Sometimes lands where it obscures an important feature, though I know as you zoom in and out that can vary.
Also would be good to be able to turn off the central cross which can obscure the very feature you are looking for.

Regards, Mike

As the club begins to use MapRun more and more a suggestion for the Results page...
- Where two or three events are linked together (either a series or Long/Medium/Short courses) then it would be good to display all results in one view

There is a new feature in the latest management console that may help. I'll send you details via email. Peter

Minor Enhancements from an Admin perspective

- With a large number of folders in the 'Select Event' options, is there a way you could create a favourites link to a preferred folder?

- Searching for events in the My Omaps admin console to change the results, are we able to use a search focus rather than scrolling down the list

- When course setting/checking is there a way to use the phone to plot a control site based on the phones GPS?

Thanks for the queries.

Favourites in "Select Events"
- I'm thinking you are referring to the Admin System
- I'll send you details of a new system that is being progressively rolled out that allows filtering of event names (and the list is just the list for the currently logged-in Administrator)
- In MapRunF, I will probably auto return users to the last folder they accessed.

Searching for Events:
- As above.

Location Pins:
In a CheckSites event you can turn on Location Pins, and drop labelled Pins that are then included in the exported GPX track. However, I only recommend this approach if you are using a high-quality GPS (connected via Bluetooth) - as generally, the accuracy of a single reading from a GPS in a phone means that the recorded location is not a reliable. A good quality Bluetooth GPS can give good results, particularly if it uses Galileo Satellites. Otherwise if you do need to set control locations using GPS readings, consider the averaging approach suggested here using a Garmin GPS device:  http://street.orienteering.com.au/maprun/

Gabor Erdi: This request came again, some athletes are usually use the app for biking. They would add the event type (mtbo, ski, running etc) connected to their user names, into their profile.
Currently we need to upload same course as many times, as many event type is waited, to separate the results, since a biker would have the best result compared to any runners.

Re: Suggested Enhancements - browsing the folders for event selection

Imre Osko:
When we try to find a good course, we browse the event structure. It is designed as usual, we can use selection -  stepping up  and down -- options, but when we opened a course already and would select another one, the tool cannot remember to the latest point we had in the folder structure.
When we would try a new course in same subfolder, it would help a lot, if we could return for selection into same folder that we have used recently.

Hi Peter,

Request from a course setter who was using a Check Site to validate locations from his mountain bike:

The Options include "Automatically Align the Map to North" but this is locked off and cannot be set to true.
This option would facilitate site checking, both on and off a bike.

I don't MBTO so don't know if this would be useful for an actual event but can see the  value during a Check site both on and off a bike.  I'm guessing it is left over from the original MapRun?

Related, a request to automatically center your location on the screen when showing location is selected.

You have probably discovered this by now but you can find the event id in the GPS Track Upload option of the MapRun Console. When you select the event it shows the event ID. You don't need to provide a track or go any further in the dialog. Just use the "Select Event" dropdown to find the Event ID.  (I use this all the time as it makes searching for results easier if I have the Event ID)

Re: Suggested Enhancements

Hi Robyn,

Not sure why but I don't see this with either the previous Admin Console or the new.  I do use (when I need) a couple of the much older admin tools with pull down list for events that show the ID.  It's really minor but when I add a new event I also update a spreadsheet that tracks them all (and puts together the direct links for the results and RG).  As the ID does not show in the short confirmation blurb when the event is created, I need to download the Purple Pen files and check in them.  No big deal.

Hi,
New to orienteering. Participated in a couple club events, I am hooked. I understand there is lots of old events, map etc on map run. But trying to find ones near you is difficult. There are so many different folders and subfolders in the event list it can be hard to find. And the events near me isn't broad enough, ie only pick up one event near me, and not the event 1 town over.

A awesome feature would be able to pull up a map and it has a pin on the map whereever there is a course that is uploaded into the system. That way its easy to find, locate and get to courses to participate on my own for practice, fun, and fitness. Essentially just eant to be able to easily do more courses, set by others, even if they aren't events.

Also can we extend the range on the events near me?

Thank you. Love exploring and getting into it. Can't wait for more

Re: Suggested Enhancements

Thanks for the suggestions.

Re finding events, we've tried to use geographic names in the folders of events, so that newcomers can find events by general location (rather than abbreviations or club names).

The "Events Near Me" function is most commonly used when a runner arrives at the site of their scheduled club event, to quickly open the event without having to traverse through the folder structure.

In organising events, MapRun works through local Clubs (Orienteering, Rogaining, Adventure Racing etc) to setup events and to manage when events are open and how to access a printed map. Accordingly, that information is typically available on the website of the organising club. Some clubs have maps showing the locations of their events.

Having said that, a general map of all MapRun events is on the list of future enhancements, and we'll see what interest there is in being able to change the radius used by "Events Near Me".

We are currently planning an event which will need a timed out leg.
Is this functionality still in the development wish list?

It is still on the list - but the list is long and that item is not near the top at this stage.

Have you seen in the Admin Console that you can export the results in "standard" csv format and could edit one split out (although you'd need to recalc the time).
