Timed out legs

dfloat
Hi,

I have just run a test on a line course with a timed out leg between two controls.  However, I couldn't get it to work, so must be doing something wrong.

I set up as a line course.  In creating the event I set two controls as timed out, in the format 2-3.
However, in the results it shows the total time, including this leg.

I did put controls too close, so the app punched one in between the two timed out controls.  Was this the issue?

Or did I do something else wrong?

Many thanks,
David

David,

Yes - you are correct. To pause the timing, a runner needs to visit the two nominated controls sequentially.

For reference see: https://maprunners.weebly.com/pause-timing-for-a-leg.html

The rationale is stated there:
If the participant visits a different control to the matching end-of-pause control, that control will be punched but no pause in timing will be credited to the total time. (ie no time deduction).
To do otherwise would open the possibility for "gaming the system" by having the time of multiple leg’s eliminated from the overall time.

Thanks Peter.  I will make sure that I don't have any controls in between, and test again!
