Hi,
MapRun doesn’t directly set any audio volume levels.
These are all controlled by Settings in iOS.
But it is important to know that if you use the standard beep sound, MapRun produces two sounds:
1. a beep directly from the app like if you’re playing a YouTube video, and
2. an iOS "notification" which has vibration and a beep.
(This is the "belts and braces" option.)
If you select any sound other than the default sound, ONLY a notification is generated. (For reasons explained in another post.)
On an iPhone, the complication is that the audio volume levels for direct sounds from apps, and for notifications can be independently controlled as outlined in this AI-generated explanation:
App “beeps and clicks” and notification sounds are usually controlled by different volume sliders, but they can be linked depending on one setting.
How iPhone volume is split:
Media volume: Controls sounds from apps like games, YouTube, music, and most in‑app effects. This is what the side buttons change while you’re actively playing media or inside many apps.
Ringer & alerts volume: Controls incoming call ringtones, SMS/iMessage tones, notifications, alarms, calendar alerts, and most system sounds like keyboard clicks and lock sounds.
So:
“Notification sounds” (texts, alerts, alarms) use the Ringer & Alerts volume.
“App beeps/clicks” generally use Media volume
The key setting that can link them is:
In Settings → Sounds & Haptics there is a Change with Buttons toggle.
- When ON: Side buttons change ringer/alerts volume, and effectively tie what you hear for notifications to the same control you’re using for other sounds.
- When OFF: Ringer & Alerts volume stays fixed at whatever the slider is set to.
Side buttons only change media (app) volume.
- So you can have loud notifications but quiet app sounds by:
- Setting Ringer & Alerts slider high, and
Turning Change with Buttons OFF, then keeping media volume lower via the side buttons or Control Center
I suggest you do some experimentation and see how you go.
Let us know if you have issues or unexpected outcomes.
