Score course:incorrect scoring on uploaded GPX track (not MapRunG)

Keith Willdig
Does anyone know why an uploaded score course track from a GPX file has scored two more controls than visited. It looks like S1 and F1 are shown and counted as ordinary controls. Situation is complicated a little because the person also visited two controls twice. I think it was S1 and F1 being counted rather than the double visits being counted. The person encountered time penalties which worked ok.

Check out http://maprun.250607.n8.nabble.com/Extra-in-results-td680.html as it sounds similar.  It involves a bit more work to upload a GPX file and then actually use it.  The new admin functions may help with correcting this (I've only just started playing with it).  I'm basing this all on a bit of a guess as to the event/user (Quentin at Headingley??)

Yes - you can have a play with the GPX track upload function and see how it works. It presents a list of any controls the track goes near (to a tolerance that is selectable). So it relies upon the user to tick/untick controls to say which ones they visited. Also there can be superfluous "punches" on S1 and F1 that should be unticked.

In reviewing results for an event, it may be worth the local Admin checking GPX track uploads (depending upon the circumstances).

Hopefully using GPX track upload is a "last resort", only if there has been a problem with MapRunF/MapRunG.

Thanks for confirming it. I thought that the start and finish registering might be the cause. It caused a bit of confusion because he also did two controls twice so it could have been either that resulted in the extra two controls being awarded.

I’ll watch out for this in the future.

Cheers

Michael, no, that was me (do you remember me from when I lived in Ottawa, by the way?) and the course was "Leamington Mail Box 60 min Score". Thanks everybody for your help, the problem is fixed now. I've re-uploaded the track, unchecking the finish at the start and the start at the finish (they were in the same location) and also the controls visited twice. This deleted the old entry and the new one now has the correct score. For some reason, I cannot make the MapRunF app work properly on my phone, the bar at the bottom goes red every 5 minutes or so, some random manipulations with the phone settings make it green again and the control registers, but it's very frustrating to do it every time. But I've run without a phone a couple of times uploading the GPX file from my cheap non-Garmin watch, and it worked perfectly both times in the end, I even reduced the tolerance to 15 m from the default 45 m the second time. I'll just keep in mind that I need to uncheck any duplicate controls.

Hi Mykyta,
I do remember you!  How are things?  Glad you got the issue sorted out.  Post the phone details and someone may be able to help out. It might just be some configuration setting
